Ph.D rotation application Q&A
Do I need embryo research experience or a bioinformatics background to apply for a rotation?
No. Having these experiences will be helpful but is not required. Of all our past graduate students, 8% have a bioinformatics background and 11.7% have an embryo research background.
Do I need a M.S. degree to apply for rotation?
No. This is not required.
Do I have to graduate from the best universities to apply for rotation?
Not really. Among our previous graduate students, about 20% graduated from THU/PKU.
Do people in lab conduct wet experiments, dryexperiments, or wet-dry experiments?
It depends on each lab member’s interests and talents. Everyone is encouraged to try both and find out their favorite. Many people in lab do both wet-dry work. Some do focus on one side.
What do I need to prepare to apply for the rotation?
If you have a strong interest and passion in science, love tackling challenges, enjoy working in a team, you are welcome to send your application concluding your CV to Prof. Xie (xiewei121@tsinghua.edu.cn).
Does it matter if I come at the 1st, 2nd,or 3rd rotation?
Not really (based on statistics). In our previousgraduate students, 36.5% joined the first rotation, 27% joined the secondrotation, and 36.5% joined the third rotation.
Can I join the lab after rotations?
Ph.D invitation is extended based on mutual interests. Typically, we invite two to three students for each rotation (and 3 rotations in total) and invite one to three students to join the lab in the end, depending on the labspace and position availability (see below for some past numbers). Some of our Ph.D students completed thesis projects or summer interns in lab instead of rotations.

Can I come to the lab for thesis projects or summerinterns?
Thesis projects and summer interns are open based on labspace availability. If you are interested, you are welcome to send an application with CV to Dr. Xie.
When can I apply for the rotation?
Typically, we would start accepting applications around the time below:
Summer intern and 1st rotation: May 1-June 30
2nd and 3rd rotation: August 15-Sept 15
Rotation slots could still be available after these dates if not occupied.

进行过生物化学、发育生物学、生物信息学等相关专业或者方向相关学科，已经获得或者即将获得相关博士学位，符合清华大学博士后招收的基本要求；
